Getting to the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region by train

Are you planning to travel to the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site by train? Great idea! From international connections and real-time updates on service changes to local public transport and onward transfer options: Here’s everything you need to know about getting to the region by train.

Direct rail access to the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region

Deutsche Bahn, the Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Trenitalia all offer connections to Franzensfeste.

From there, take the local train towards Innichen, with the option of getting off in Niederdorf, Toblach, Innichen or Vierschach/Helm. To reach Sexten and the Prags valley, simply continue your journey on the region’s well-connected local bus network, departing from Innichen or Niederdorf.

Line closures on the new Puster Valley Railway

Sections of the Puster Valley Railway are expected to be closed until January 2026 due to upgrades. During this period, replacement bus services will be available to ensure smooth travel.

Details of the affected sections:

  • Franzensfeste–Bruneck: Sunday, 15 December 2024 to Saturday, 13 December 2025
  • Bruneck–Innichen: Monday, 14 April 2025 to Monday, 2 June 2025
  • Franzensfeste–Mühlbach: Sunday, 14 December 2025 to Monday, 26 January 2026

“Südtirol Transfer” – the connection to your holiday accommodation

Are you travelling to the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site by train or long-distance coach? The “Südtirol Transfer” shuttle service takes care of the final stretch of your journey – getting you directly to your booked accommodation and back to the station at the end of your stay.

An additional Navetta shuttle train runs once daily from Bozen to Innichen.

Good to know: Both shared and private transfers can be easily booked online.
