Peaks & Sound
High in the mountains music, words, thought and emotion come together.
In a chamber ensemble setting, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn performs Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony – a musical narrative of humanity’s encounter with nature in all its nuances. Alongside it, Mahler’s intimate Adagietto from his Fifth Symphony captures, in enchanting sounds, humanity’s encounter with its deepest and most silent inner source.

REINHOLD MESSNER Narrator
DIRK KAFTAN Conductor
For the first time, a concert project leads into the high-alpine heart of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites, to the unique Reinhold Messner Haus, beneath the world’s largest natural rock sundial.
Between the movements of the music, texts by Reinhold Messner create spaces for reflection on humanity, the environment and the mountains. Within the walls where alpine history was made 150 years ago, a sea of peaks, music and myth merges into a unique artistic experience. With mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner, the concert takes on an entirely new dimension.
On the podium stands Dirk Kaftan, General Music Director of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the City of Bonn. Together with his orchestra, he has spent years developing a distinctive musical language and a unique interpretation of Beethoven’s works.
