Winter Art in Snow – Temporary and Extraordinary

Barbed wire, saws, and shovels are their tools; rubber boots, ear protectors, and gloves their faithful companions – and the weather god their great ally. In February 2026, around 30 artists from all over the world will once again take part in the 35th International Snow Sculpture Festival in San Candido, a special side event of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

In the crisp winter air, under the sun or illuminated in the evening, fascinating works of art take shape: imaginative forms, impressive structures, and delicate snow sculptures that transform the village for a few days into an extraordinary open-air gallery.

The competition format is simple but spectacular: fresh snow is pressed into giant 3x3x3 meter cubes using water and winter cold, which are placed at various locations throughout San Candido.
Ten teams have three days to turn them into their snow dreams – using only tools and water, which quickly freezes in the winter temperatures.

Both locals and visitors are invited to follow the creation of the sculptures, pick their favorites, and admire the artworks until the first warmer days – and thanks to atmospheric lighting, also in the evening.
