Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail II - 9th stage: from Plätzwiese to the Dreizinnenhütte

From the Hotel Hohe Gaisl at Plätzwiese you hike along the forest road to the Dürrensteinhütte. The path to Strudelkopf is signposted, but has no number and ends at the Strudelkopfsattel (several signposts). You hike shortly upwards to the right towards Strudelkopf (you can see the summit cross) until the next signpost indicating the descent to Landro in the Höhlensteintal. From Strudelkopfsattel you reach the summit of Strudelkopf in about 20 minutes and pass the GEOSTOP R. From the summit cross you have a fantastic 360-degree view of the main Alpine ridge and the Dolomites. Right next to it is the World Heritage terrace, which explains the magnificent panorama in cut steel. The long descent into the Höhlensteintal ends near the Dreizinnenblick viewpoint (GEOSTOP S). You cross the main road to the parking lot and follow path 102 into the Rienztal towards the Dreizinnenhütte. Soon you reach a fork where you continue straight on path 102. Passing two junctions (you always follow the natural road) you hike through the Rienztal until the increasingly steep ascent to the Zinnen plateau begins. Up several switchbacks, past a junction, until the path enters the narrow natural road to the Dreizinnenhütte, then briefly right and at the following fork uphill to the Dreizinnenhütte.
