This circular hike leads to the Helm summit. This modest summit in the long, gently shaped ridge that accompanies the Sexten valley in the northeast offers one of the most beautiful views of the Sexten Dolomites. To the north stands the wall of the Central Alpine chain, to the east the Lienz Dolomites and the Carnic Alps. The most rewarding of all the smaller mountains around Sexten! This hike is not difficult at all and can also be done as a half-day route.
- Linear route
ATTENTION: Due to construction work, the path does not run directly past the Helm summit. You will be redirected to a signposted path a few meters below the summit.
Start from the valley station of the Helm cable car, take it up and from the mountain station go left onto path no. 20 behind the Helm restaurant, along the hut path to the Helm summit. The path is narrow and very beautiful and soon leads out of the forest. Continue along the forest edge and via a small path to Hasenköpfl (2226 m) with the East Tyrolean Alps on the northern side. The last section leads along a rocky path somewhat steeply uphill until you reach the Helm summit. From here, the 360° view of the valley is unique. You can now take the steep path over the Helm ridge no. 3 A or the more pleasant path no. 20, which first runs eastwards along the ridge and then turns and passes the Hahnspiel hut to reach the mountain station of the Helm cable car. You can also avoid the cable car descent and walk back down to Moos via the Lärchen hut – the Egge – Helmhang hut, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Another option is to continue from the Helm summit to the Sillian hut and descend to Klammbachalm and back to Moos.
A great circular hike with panoramic views high above Sexten – with good visibility, an absolute highlight!
