The Helmhaus, located on the summit of Helm, the most distinctive viewpoint in the Upper Puster Valley, is a place of great historical and symbolic significance. Built in 1891 by the German and Austrian Alpine Club, the building was expropriated by the Italian state in 1925 and used for military purposes for decades before being left to deteriorate. Today, the Alpenverein Südtirol (lead partner), the Austrian Alpine Club, and the Municipality of Sexten are working together to create a symbol of overcoming this eventful and complex history. Following an initial Interreg phase, during which the planning process and the cross-border “Heimatsteig” trail were completed, the project has now entered the stage of architectural restoration and revitalisation.

Arrival
By car or public transport, you can reach Sexten either via the SS49 coming from Innichen or via the SS48 coming from Padola over the Kreuzberg Pass.
