The mobility concept in detail
Mobility in the Pragser Tal valley
To reduce growing traffic volumes and to reduce pressure on sensitive areas, the Pragser Tal valley has adopted a comprehensive, valley-wide mobility concept supported by focused visitor management. It includes:
- Regulated access to Pragser Wildsee lake: During the high season, entry to the valley’s access routes is restricted to prior online reservation or public transport use, ensuring a more relaxed nature experience for everyone.
- Flexible bike access: Bike travel to and within the valley is always welcome.
- Local public transport & convenient guest cards: The region boasts an excellent bus and train network, making it easy to get around without a car. With the Südtirol Guest Pass, travellers can even use public transport free of charge during their stay.
- Traffic-calmed zones: Private transport is heavily restricted in sensitive areas of the valley, particularly near hiking trails and nature reserves.

During the summer months (01.07 – 15.09), access to the Pragser Tal valley is regulated. An online reservation for access to the valley or for the public bus services is required via prags.bz. The valley can be reached at any time on foot or by bicycle. Outside the peak season, there are no access restrictions, and the Südtirol Alto Adige Guest Pass is also valid on the bus services during this period.
In addition to Pragser Wildsee lake, the Pragser Tal valley offers the Plätzwiese high plateau with its impressive panoramic views, an extensive network of hiking trails for all levels, cross-country skiing trails in winter, and traditional mountain huts and alpine pastures. Snowshoeing, mountain biking and climbing are popular activities throughout the year.
A public bus runs directly from Dobbiaco to Prags. Guests with a Südtirol Alto Adige Guest Pass can use all public bus services in the region free of charge. The Guest Pass is included in the stay at most accommodation establishments in the region. During the traffic regulation period, the Guest Pass is not valid on bus routes 439 and 442, which require a separate reservation.
In winter, Prags reveals a very special side of itself. When the trees are covered in snow, you can go snowshoeing, enjoy winter walks along prepared trails, ski at the family-friendly ski lift in Altprags or go cross-country skiing on the Plätzwiese high plateau.
If you stay at an accommodation affiliated with the Tourist Office Prags, you can use all public transport free of charge. You can also take part in the guided weekly activity programme free of charge. In addition, transport services in the valley that require reservations are included.
