The Marchkinkele is a popular viewpoint north of the village of Toblach, on the border between South Tyrol (Italy) and East Tyrol (Austria). This MTB tour is one of the most demanding in the region. The efforts are quickly forgotten at the summit, as a 360° view offers an unforgettable panorama of the Dolomites with the Three Peaks in the south and the glacier world in the north. Just below the summit is the Marchhütte, which invites you to refresh yourself.
- Round trip
The tour starts at Toblach train station heading north and passes by the Wahlen district into the Silvester valley. Initially on an asphalt road, later on a gravel path through the forest. This forest road gently ascends to the Silvesteralm (1,800m), which is located amidst alpine meadows. Behind the alm, the tour leads on the right side back into the forest and uphill to Bodeneck (1,805m). From there, an old military road from World War I branches off to the left and ascends in switchbacks, initially through the forest, later with views of the Dolomite peaks, up to the Strickberg. Most of the ascent is done; it's not far to the Marchkinkele (2,545m). The descent begins along the same path back to Bodeneck, from where the round tour continues eastward downhill to the mountain farms "Jaufen" and further to Winnebach. From there, the Pustertal bike route leads westward to Innichen and further to Toblach, back to the starting point.
