The winter hike begins at the Panorama Inn, where there is a small parking lot slightly above. From there, follow the wide trail no. 13 towards Klammbachalm. The first 500 meters are flat on a paved road. Then cross a small bridge. After the bridge, the trail continues slightly uphill. After about 400 meters, you will reach a fork in the trail, where you should follow the right-hand path towards Helmhanghütte. Shortly afterwards, you will cross a 50-meter stretch of forest. The landscape then opens up, offering a beautiful view of the Sesto sundial. A few minutes later, you will reach the Helmhanghütte, which is located directly on the slope and invites you to stop for a bite to eat.
Depending on the snow conditions, a leisurely toboggan ride is a great way to return. Toboggans can be rented directly at the Dreischusterhütte. The descent follows the same route as the hike and is at your own risk.
If you arrive by bus, you will need to walk a little further to the starting point:
From the bus stop, follow the paved road towards the parish church of Sexten, pass it and continue uphill along Kaiserstraße towards Mitterberg. After about 1.5 kilometers and 280 meters of elevation gain, you will reach the Panorama Inn. You should allow about an hour's walking time for this approach.
Coming from the Puster Valley, turn off at Innichen into the Sexten valley. Coming from the Kreuzberg Pass, follow the main road to Sexten. Drive past the church in Sexten on an asphalt road (Kaiserstraße) towards Mitterberg. Start at Gasthof Panorama, Mitterberg 3.
