The Seekofel - a spectacular peak with a breathtaking 360° view! The popular route to Seekofel requires a certain level of fitness and mountain experience due to the steep paths. You start from the Hotel Pragser Wildsee (1494 m) on path no. 1 at the west shore of the lake to the meadow on the south shore. In the pine-covered forest, you hike through a high valley southeastwards and later into a flat valley floor called "Nabiges Loch" (2034 m); then you continue partly very steeply into the large rock cirque "Ofen", at the fork keep right with a view back to the Drei Zinnen and climb up to the Törl (2388 m), then a few minutes down to the Seekofel hut (2320 m) on the south side of the path. From here you have wonderful views of Monte Pelmo, Hohe Gaisl, Tofane, Fanes and Geisler groups; dominated by the Seekofel above the hut. From there you continue right (red marking) over partly steep rock to the summit cross. Exposed sections are secured with wire cables. Difficulty level: very demanding, surefootedness and freedom from dizziness required! The walking time is 4.5 hours.
Alternative: Return route from the Seekofel hut via the Seitenbachtal: From the Seekofel hut, take path no. 23 slightly uphill to the Seitenbachscharte (2338 m). From there you hike between Col de Ricegogn and Senneser Karspitze initially very steeply down into the Seitenbachtal and to the Grünwaldalm (1590 m; refreshment possibility) and continue on the wide and only gently sloping gravel path down the valley to the starting point.
