Starting at the Mitterberg fortress, the prepared winter hiking trail passes through varied landscapes with gentle ascents and descents to the Nemesalm and, on request, continues to the Klammbachalm.
- Prepared winter hiking trail, ideal for safe walking even on snow
- Diverse landscape – the trail connects different natural sections
- Impressive panorama of the Sexten Sundial, Knieberg, and other peaks
- Linear route
Important notice: Proper footwear and suitable winter clothing are required for all winter hikes. Due to possible icy sections – even on groomed trails – the use of microspikes/crampons and trekking poles is recommended.
From the Mitterberg Fortress, follow the marked trail no. 136 towards Klammbachalm. At first, the path goes over an asphalt road, then crosses a bridge and gently ascends through a short forest section. After a short while, you reach a fork where you turn left towards Egge. The trail continues to climb, passes under a ski slope, and leads into Egge. Here, follow the prepared winter hiking trail no. 136 towards Nemesalm/Saumahd. Continue on a level path to the next intersection, staying on trail no. 136. Pass underneath the mid-station of the Stiergarten cable car and continue on a gently descending and then ascending path. After a few minutes, pass under another ski slope until you reach another junction. Here, follow trail no. 13 for about 50 meters. Passing a wayside cross, you come to another fork where you take the right-turning trail no. 131 towards Kreuzberg Pass. After about 100 meters, the trail turns left again, still no. 131, continuing towards the pass. Next is a roughly 1.7 km mostly flat section along the forest edge. Eventually, you reach hiking trail no. 131 leading to Nemesalm. From here, there is an option to extend the tour: via trail no. 13 you ultimately reach Klammbachalm.
From there, you can return the same way or alternatively climb up to Stiergarten and take the cable car down to the valley station of the Drei Zinnen cable car.
Those arriving by bus still have an additional walk to the starting point:
From the bus stop, follow the paved road towards the Sexten parish church, pass it, and continue uphill along Kaiserstraße towards Mitterberg. After about 1.5 kilometers and 280 meters of elevation gain, you will reach the Panorama inn. You should allow about one hour of walking time for this approach.
